European Biotech: Business Development Team Expansion Case Study

A mid-sized European Biotech company retained Venari Partners to expand its Business Development team. The purpose of this project was to accelerate the company’s efforts in scouting for, and executing on acquisition and licensing deals in both Europe and the US as part of its ambitious growth strategy. Following a recent change in leadership, the business set about advancing its current pipeline of promising drugs, whilst actively looking to supplement it by acquiring additional complementary programs.

Venari Partners was instructed to look specifically for candidates with a strategy consulting or investment banking background and an appetite for getting deals done. Being a mid-sized but fast-growing company, it was important that we were identifying candidates with the right cultural fit. A curious, creative and entrepreneurial mindset, along with the ability to uncover hidden value in a deal, were all sought-after characteristics.

Venari Partners undertook a pan-European search to identify the best possible candidates at the mid-management level. The result was two separate shortlists, delivered in full and on time. After a thorough process and several rounds of interviews, the top two candidates were selected and successfully hired.
